What is Gyrotonic®?
The Gyrotonic Expansion System®, developed by Julio Horvath, is a system of exercise that uses basic principles of yoga, ballet, gymnastics, and swimming. This system was created to bring strength and balance to the body musculature while increasing range of motion at the joints, resulting in more freedom of movement of the entire body. Simultaneously stretching and strengthening, with spherical and spiraling motion, Gyrotonic® affords the body freedom of movement and creates flexibility and strength in all 3-dimensions. The Gyrotonic Expansion System® uses weights, pulleys and cams to produce a wide range of rotational movements that strengthen the body’s core while improving the flexibility of the spine and joints. The unique yoga based movements promote increased coordination, articulation, balance, fluidity, relaxation and power. Working on all levels in an energetic and fluid manner, the movements are designed to open and strengthen the meridian flows of the body, developing an inner sensitivity and an organic strength from within.
The Gyrotonic Expansion System® works the body in an integrated manner that ultimately increases the functional capacity of the entire organism in a harmonious way.
Gyrotonic® exercise is internationally recognized as the conditioning program for dancers, athletes, rehabilitation centers and fitness enthusiasts, as well as the elderly and children. Regardless of age or fitness abilities, Gyrotonic® training will help develop core strength, flexibility of the spine and muscular system, and improve balance and coordination. |
