Katy, owner of Chicago River North Pilates, is a Pilates instructor as well as a teacher trainer for The PhysicalMind Institute. Katy is a dancer and retired pre-Olympic gymnast and has been dedicated to mind-body fitness for most of her life. After graduating from Texas Christian University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in ballet, she began a career as a professional dancer in New York City.
In 2002, Katy’s career shifted to mind-body fitness and she received her Pilates training from the renowned studio Movements Afoot in New York City. While there, she studied Pilates, anatomy, Bartinieff Fundamentals, Physio-Ball Method, and yoga from Lesley Powell (founder), Doris Pasteleur Hall, and Sue Monti.
In 2004, Katy became fully certified as a Gyrotonic® and Gyrokinesis® level 1 instructor from Juliu Horvath, the creator of the Gyrotonic Expansion System®. She is now pursing level 2 Gyrotonic® training, and has completed the certification on the Gyrotonic® Ladder and Jumping-Stretching Board.
Currently, she is attending Columbia College for a certificate in Laban Movement Analysis.
