…Of the moment, at least! There’s always something new to try in the health/nutrition/fitness worlds. Way too much to try them all. So of the ones that I’ve tried, I thought I’d edit together a little list of my favorites so far from 2012.
- Coconut Water. Coconut water is the liquid found in little baby coconuts before they grow into mature coconuts. It is high in potassium, which helps regulate blood pressure and counteract the effects of high sodium intake.* Marketed primarily as a post-workout drink, there is debate about what you need more after a heavy sweat-sesh: potassium vs sodium. Would you trade your sports drink for this all-natural replenisher?
- Gluten Free. I wrote about this back in the beginning of the year and it seems that it’s just as popular now if not more! Gluten free is a diet trend for some, and a diet must for those with a gluten allergy. There are the obvious health benefits, like less carbs = less weight gain, and the not so obvious benefits, like relieving symptoms of a range of medical conditions from Autism to Rheumatoid Arthritis.** Do your research and test it out for a week to see if it’s a viable option for your lifestyle!
- Greek Yogurt. Have you noticed? Greek yogurt is eeeeverywhere. I’ve even seen frozen greek yogurt! (It’s pretty good, try it if you can find it!). Why the popularity? First of all, because of the method used to create it, GY contains much lower levels of sugar and higher levels of protein than regular yogurt.*** Yes, the fat content may be a little higher but in moderation this is a great snack option or addition to your breakfast!
So what are your favorite trends from 2012? It was super tough to narrow to just 3, I’d love to hear others’ thoughts!
